DELIVERY DRIVER

How to Start and Run a Successful Delivery Driver Business (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Instacart & More)

In today’s on-demand economy, delivery services are booming. Whether it's takeout, groceries, or retail goods, customers are relying more than ever on delivery apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, Instacart, Grubhub, Amazon Flex, and Shipt. If you're looking for a flexible, low-barrier way to earn income or build a side hustle, starting your own delivery driver business might be the perfect fit.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to getting started and thriving as a self-employed delivery driver.

Step 1: Choose Your Delivery Platforms

There are several apps and services you can work for. Consider signing up for one or more of the following:

  • DoorDash – Food delivery from restaurants.

  • Uber Eats – Restaurant food delivery via the Uber platform.

  • Instacart – Grocery shopping and delivery.

  • Grubhub – Restaurant delivery with scheduled blocks.

  • Shipt – Similar to Instacart, often tied to stores like Target.

  • Amazon Flex – Package delivery for Amazon orders.

Tip: Many drivers use multiple apps to maximize opportunities.

Step 2: Meet the Basic Requirements

Most platforms have simple requirements:

  • Be at least 18 or 21 years old (varies by platform).

  • Have a valid driver’s license.

  • Own a reliable vehicle (some services allow bikes or scooters in urban areas).

  • Have a smartphone.

  • Pass a background check.

For grocery services, you may also need the ability to lift 30-40 pounds.
